Hawaii and its wonders

Hawaii: surfing, beaches and natural wonders

Two major islands (Oahu, Maui, Big Island, Kauai, Lanai and Molokai) and numerous smaller islands form the archipelago of Hawaii, the fiftieth state of the USA, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Oahu and Maui are undoubtedly the best known and the most suitable for those who come for the first time.

Oahu is the island of Honolulu, Hawaii's capital, the economic center and tourist archipelago. Modern skyscrapers stand out in the ocean, at the foot of the high mountains, creating a remarkable contrast between the city and the rest of the island, separated by tropical forests and pineapple plantations. The contrast is even more evident in the chaotic Waikiki (one of the most famous beaches in the world) where white sand and crystal clear water in the background see the big hotels that host thousands of tourists.

Fortunately, however, are not only the Hawaii Honolulu and Waikiki; for example, just walk a few miles and go over Diamond Head (one of the four craters Oahu) to find volcanic landscapes, beaches and relaxed city in which to enjoy a nice Mai Tai.

Oahu has become famous in recent years for the television series Magnum PI, Flipper and, more recently, Lost (the Island of the series is reconstructed by a dozen sets scattered between beaches and tropical forest). Always, however, is considered the world capital of surfing. The famous waves of the North Shore (which in winter can reach 20-25 feet tall) are the race field preferred by surfers from around the world who meet on the beautiful beaches of Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay and Haleiwa, a delightful town where there seem to be only surf shops and local meeting again after a long day in the waves.

Maui is more rugged, with small and quaint towns distant miles and miles apart. The island is formed by two extinct volcanoes, the West Maui Mountain and Haleakala. It reaches a height of 3050 meters above sea level and, within the crater, has glimpses of enchanting beauty. Tourist facilities are divided mainly between two places on the coast south Kaanapali and Wailea. Lahaina is instead the ancient capital of Hawaii, a small town that seems to have stopped at the beginning of the last century.

The beauty of Maui can be summarized by the incredible Road to Hana: a journey of about 53 miles that joins the towns of Kahului and Hana. Over 600 curves and 54 bridges run along a path among the most beautiful in the world go attracerso tropical forests, waterfalls, lakes and cliffs overlooking the ocean; a natural paradise to enjoy in peace, stopping at numerous points of interest and entering in search of true natural pools to swim under a waterfall.

Hawaii is enchanting islands that offer unique scenery. The most valuable advice is definitely to not shut themselves up in the luxury resort, but to rent a car (preferably convertibles) and rush to discover all the wonders that are hidden behind every corner. Aloha!
