                                       Mexican legend of the poinsettia

The poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima), ie the Christmas star, is the flower of the Christmas period. Its symbolic meaning goes back centuries and brings us in Mexico, native country of this plant. Here, a little girl named Lola ... and the rest of the story? The find in this Christmas tale that mixes legend and history.

It was Christmas Eve, in the back of the chapel, Lola, a small Mexican girl, in tears prayed: "Please God, help me! How can I prove to the baby Jesus that I love him? I have nothing, not even a flower to put in foot of his crib "All of a sudden there appeared a beautiful light and Lola saw appear beside her his guardian angel. "Jesus knows that you love him, Lola, he knows what you do for others. Collect only a few flowers on the edge of the road and bring it here," said the angel. "But are the weeds, those that are on the edge of the road," the girl replied. "There are weeds are just plants that man has not discovered what God wants her to" the angel said with a smile. Lola and came out a few minutes later he entered the chapel in arm with a bunch of vegetables that deposited with respect before the manger, among the flowers that the other villagers had brought. A little later in the chapel felt a brief whisper, the weeds brought by Lola had become beautiful red flowers, red fire. From that day the stars of Christmas in Mexico are called "Flores de la Noce Buena", Flower of the Holy Night. In 1825, Joel Poinsett, US ambassador to Mexico, back in America seeds poinsettias and became known worldwide.
